If you don't already know about Tagfoot, it's a social bookmarking site that could be a big help when it comes to generating traffic to your website.

I know you're thinking, not another social media site? I honestly almost slept on this one because I felt the same way.

When I joined, it was solely as an attempt to follow the advice of someone who already had tons of traffic. So I put my bookmarks on the site, but didn't bother to create a profile or designate any tags. If my Tagfoot account was a corner it would certainly have collected cobwebs.

Then one day I noticed something, someone had commented on a website I had bookmarked - I realized several other people had been there. I also noticed that people were following me and I had begun receiving messages from others who were "sharing" their bookmarks with me.

Duh! I thought. I felt like the lame kid in high school who was always left out of the loop (Oh, I forgot... I was that kid!). Why had I waited so long before capitalizing on what this site and others like it had to offer?

The site encourages others to share and check out each other's bookmarks. The site's name actually reveals it's best features - use tags to identify your bookmarks as well as your interests to help others find you.

When you like something someone has shared with you - you can "foot it" to show your approval (or not). The site rewards the people who spend the most time "footing", commenting, and receiving more "foots" by placing them on the day's top footer page.

Tagfoot will also share its Google Adsense revenue with members who submit 10 items in various categories. So in addition to free traffic generation, you also have an opportunity to earn some extra money while you work on building your following.

Your following is the key to traffic generation. The more people who follow you, the more people you'll have to share your bookmarks with.

These bookmarks shouldn't just be any old websites, they should be links to websites you want to promote, links to articles you've submitted to article directories, and other helpful information.

Your bookmarks should never be a direct route to affiliate links. You may be tempted to do this when you realize the magnitude of Tagfoot's traffic generation potential.

If you share affiliate links, you'll succeed in getting people to click on them - but you'll ruin your conversion rates.

What you can do about this is create a buffer page - that gives some persuasive information about the product/service, then share your link to that. If a follower wants to go on to click the affiliate link, they'll have the option there.

Increasing your following is key to traffic generation, but if you're not careful you could end up with tons of untargeted traffic - which, unfortunately, is useless. So youÕll want to be sure that when you create your profile you take the time to tag your interests.

Simply choose keywords and phrases that best identify what you're all about. Do the same for each of your bookmarks. This is important for two reasons.

First, it will help people who are looking to make friends and follow you a lot easier - you'll want friends who are interested in the same things otherwise you'll annoy the endless heck out of people who have no interest whatsoever in the bookmarks you share with them.

Secondly, when you take the time to tag your bookmarks, it makes it easier for your information to be found in search engines. How? You'll be borrowing from TagfootÕs high ranking - you may find your bookmarks turning up on first page search results.

This is traffic generation at its best! Not only could you capitalize on traffic from the social aspect of this site, but you could potentially rake in traffic from the entire internet.

Use Tagfoot to aid in traffic generation by promoting your website, articles, products/services on Tagfoot. As always, I will suggest you not abuse this feature - use it gently and wisely.

You don't want people to feel bombarded by all of your "shared" links. Instead, you want to offer them some information that could potentially help them in some way, rather than constantly trying to sell something.

So don't go bonkers sharing every little thing you want to promote - you'll alienate your followers that way.

But when done right, Tagfoot can help you with your traffic generation tasks for any website.
