The Simple Site Switch That Makes Traffic Easier
(Jason Taylor)
In this article I want to talk about traffic generation.
And the unspoken truth about why so many struggle to get it right...
Let's face it. Traffic is the lifeblood of online businesses.
Without any web site visitors your site cannot be a success. It's like the old saying "If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?".
If a web site is online but no one knows about it, does it really exist? Of course it does.
Just not profitably.
What we have noticed is that everyone wants to learn more traffic techniques.
And there is an avalanche of people willing to teach you the latest traffic tactic.
Be it Twitter, Facebook marketing, search engine optimisation, Google Adwords or whatever - there are always people selling new tactics and people looking for new tactics.
Quite controversially we believe most of these are wrong. And here's why...
I want you to think of two web sites selling golf clubs. Both sell the exact same golf clubs at the exact same price.
They are the exact same web sites but on different domains. Which should a golf enthusiast choose to buy from?
Either. Doesn't matter. They're both the same.
Now let's say one web site offers a pair of golf shoes with every purchase and the other doesn't. Now which one should a golf enthusiast buy from?
The one with the best deal right? Golf clubs and shoes is better than just golf clubs.
Now think of the advertising for those sites. Which one would be easier to write a juicy advert for? The second one of course.
The 'hook' is the golf shoes with every purchase makes it easy to write a good ad. And a good ad is what generates traffic.
Let me say that again. A good ad is what generates traffic.
You see you could have the prettiest looking web site in the world.
It could have lots of fancy designs and interesting images. But if there is no 'hook' there, nothing to make you stand out from every other web site in your niche, you'll struggle.
The mistake most web site owners make is they build the site before they think about how they are going to generate visitors.
And then they have to craft their advertising around whatever their site is offering, making it much harder to create a cracking advert.
In an ideal world you should think of a 'hook' for your advertising first and then think of how you're going to fulfill that hook.
So how do you come up with a hook? Simple really. Provide people in your niche with what they really want. Not what you think they want. What they really want.
To find this out go and read reviews on Amazon.com of products in your niche.
Read what people like or dislike in a product and craft advertising around what people look for most in your type of product or service.
Next layer on an extra hook. Such as a better guarantee than your competitors or a two for one offer.
Maybe offer support if your competitors are not. The point is be different. Doing the same as
everyone else is the recipe for failing online, or offline for that matter.
A word of warning. Do not think that selling at a lower price than everyone else is the answer to your problems.
It isn't. Sure there are some bargain hunters who may like you. But for most people rock bottom prices mean less value.
So lowering your prices is like saying "Hey, we don't have much faith in the quality of our
products". Don't lower prices as your 'hook'.
It won't work.
Once you have come up with your hook place it in all of your traffic generation techniques.
Advertising, articles, videos and any other traffic strategy will become more successful once you are using a better hook.
So stop looking for more traffic tactics.
Instead create a better hook. It will help solve your traffic problem!
