Your website is doing great. Tons of visitors are pouring in. Yep, the money should start rolling in any day, now... right? Even though your stats are telling you that you've got visitors galore - for some reason you aren't making any revenue.

You take a look at the average time each visitor spent on your site and you realize that people are leaving after only about three seconds.

Why is this happening?...

...You've got traffic - but not targeted website traffic.

If you're seeing lots of visitors who only stay for a few seconds, which means that they never go forward to click on anything - they are probably hitting the "Back" button as soon as they see that they've landed somewhere that they don't want to be.

#1. Reason You Aren't Receiving Targeted Website Traffic:

You've chosen the wrong keywords. If your visitors were motivated to click your link and then realized it wasn't what they were looking for, it's probably because your site is appearing in search results for keywords that don't really apply to your site.

This happens when you say your site is about one thing, and then produce content about something else.

In order to fully understand the problem, and understand exactly what I mean, you're going to have to check your stats to see which key words are referring visitors to your site.

If the keywords you're turning up for are unrelated to your site, it's an indicator that you are not maintaining a focus on your site - you're writing about too many different topics.

#2. Reason You Aren't Receiving Targeted Website Traffic:

You've chosen the wrong friends. You're networking with the wrong people on your social networking and bookmarking sites.

You've probably got a lot of followers, friends, etc. from various backgrounds with all kinds of interests. These people are clicking your sites as a favor to you, but clearly aren't really interested in your topic.

You are not receiving targeted web site traffic.

If this is the cause, don't get upset, you don't have to ditch your old followers and friends, but you will need to search out new ones that are interested in your niche.

#3. Reason You Aren't Receiving Targeted Website Traffic:

You haven't written a good description for your site. You've placed a poorly written, vague, or incomplete description in your website meta-tags or during the submission process.

People are clicking on your site link because your description is giving them misleading information. You can correct this by editing your website's layout HTML code.

Don't fret, if you make the proper corrections, you'll soon begin to see an increase in targeted web site traffic because you'll finally begin to attract visitors who are actually interested in what you have to offer. Those are the only kind of visitors you really need.
