How to Increase Web Traffic With Companion Articles
How to Increase Web Traffic With Companion Articles By Daniel D Dwase

People love step-by-step articles. When written effectively they can attract people who are looking for information to your site.
The problem lies, however, is getting those people to your article. If your search engine ranking is low, the people who need it most may never find it.
So here's a useful tip that can both get people to your article and increase web traffic by making it easier for visitors to find it: Write two "Companion Articles".
One should be an actual step-by-step guide and the other should be a primer article that leads into the guide.
Increase Web Traffic with Primer Articles
Create a companion article for your step-by-step article and submit it to a high traffic article directory or website like EzineArticles.com.
|
This "primer article" must be eye catching and curiosity inspiring and should highlight the benefits of knowing how to do whatever it is you'd like to teach in the step-by-step article.
Give visitors a glimpse into your article by including the number of steps in the title. People like a finite number of things because it makes things seem more concrete - it seems more possible to complete.
It doesn't matter if you combine steps to keep the number manageable, people just like the predictability of numbers.
I suggest you match the number in both articles. For example, your primer article could be entitled: "7 Reasons to Plant a Flower Garden" and then your step-by-step article would be: "7 Steps to Planting a Flower Garden".
This first article must be engaging and it must also highlight good reasons why people should follow your suggestions. They must know why it's important.
You should also give them a sense of urgency - like it's something they’ve got to do now. For example, if summer is halfway over, they'd better get planting today.
This article should entice them to read the step-by-step article – it's important that they only be able to find the actual step-by-step article on your site. End the primer article by leading into the step-by-step article.
To give another example, your last sentence could be: "Now that you understand the 7 reasons to plant a flower garden, read "7 Steps to Planting a Flower Garden".
Be sure to create a click-able link for the title. Readers' curiosity will cause them to click the link – this will definitely increase website traffic.
To optimize this effect, you could pay an extra fee to feature this primer article, it will increase web traffic even more.
Writing the Step-by-Step Article
It won't matter if you inspire people to visit your site if once they get there, they find out that your article sucks. Your step-by-step article must also be engaging.
It must have a brief introduction that orients the reader to the subject and again explains the benefits of completing the steps.
Even though you've written the primer article, you'll still want to create an engaging intro for visitors who enter your site without having read the companion article.
Write a quick sentence that let's them know about the other article so that they'll know where to find more information if they are interested.
Then create clear steps that flow without confusion, you may need to do a "test" performance of the steps to ensure you haven't skipped steps or placed them in the wrong order.
With a step-by-step article you may finish off with the last step or you can write a brief conclusion to wrap things up. You'll want to repeat this companion article marketing process at least twice a week to consistently increase website traffic.
