9 Tips to Generate Free Targeted Web Traffic
9 Tips to Generate Free Targeted Web Traffic By Daniel D Dwase

What's your best tip for generating free traffic to your website?
|
People often jump from one traffic building ebook to the next, then throw their hands up in frustration, because despite all they've read, they haven't increased their website traffic.
They frantically move on the next 'Promise-You-More-Traffic' phenomenon, spending an emormous amount of money.
That's great for the affiliate marketers of those products, but what's good for them is not always good for struggling e-business owners who are trying to gain some leverage.
|
Don't get me wrong, all affiliate marketers are NOT bad; some of them are genuinely trying to help new webmasters reach their goals by legitimately providing information and products that solves real problems.
The truth is, that despite investing large amounts of money on ebooks and paid advertisements, many new e-business owners will eventually give up trying to build free targeted web traffic without ever having actually implemented any of the strategies they've read about.
Maybe they've picked a few and half-heartedly executed some, but due to time constraints, they did not or could not maintain their traffic building efforts.
No matter how many tips I give, without consistent and repeated action, they are useless.
Knowledge without action is pointless. Therefore, the keys to successful free targeted web traffic building require these two action verbs: Use and Do.
Use resources you already possess and actually...
... Do something with what you've learned.
Follow all of these tips and you will see an increase in free targeted web traffic – but don't stop there...
...Repeat! Traffic building is a cyclical process that must be done over and over again to avoid the dreaded traffic fizzle – a drop in traffic that's so sudden you will swear you see tumbleweed drifting across your computer screen.
To avoid owning a deserted ghost town of a website, implement these free targeted web traffic building tips I've implemented myself over the years that still brings in traffic to my sites:
1. Market Your Articles
Submit articles you've already written for your website to ezine article directories such as Ezinearticles.com and Sooperarticles.com.
High traffic article directories like these allow you to submit the same articles... although you could make minor changes just to add some variety... and allow you to add links to your site in the author resource box.
Readers who want to know more will click the links and suddenly you've got a new visitor to your site.
I've had quite alot of visitors to my sites from Ezinearticles.com simply because they clicked on the link in my author resource box. Search Google to find more ezine article directories to submit to. (See "Increase Website Traffic with Article Marketing & Directory Submissions")

2. Join Social Bookmarking Sites
These can drain valuable time if you're not careful so you need a very focused approach to this.
Join sites like Facebook, Myspace, Technorati, Mybloglog, BlogCatalog, Tagfoot, and Squidoo (this list is by no means exhausted).
Create your profile and be sure that links to your site can be found in your profile (if the site permits). Join groups with people of the same interests to avoid tons of untargeted traffic – that's visitors who are just there to be nice, but don't plan on buying anything.
Once you've joined as many groups as you can find with people of similar interests move on to the next tip.
3. Post Comments in a Group Forum and/or On Similar Blogs
Not just any comments – comments that demonstrate that you've actually read the post and even extends or offers more suggestions.
In other words, don't just write "nice article" and leave. Instead, leave comments that other people will read and be motivated to learn more about what you've said.
Leave a link to your site, but don't beg others to "check this out" or "read my blog", instead gently nudge them by giving them information they can use and will want more of.
Leave comments that demonstrate that you know what you're talking about.
Post on forums, sites, or blogs that appear to have the highest traffic and be sure to pay attention to the date that the last comment was posted, if the last post was more than a year ago, you've probably stumbled upon a ghost town website.
Don't waste time and energy with these.
4. Find a High Traffic Partner Site
This will take some finesse, you will need to find a successful blog or website, then follow it for a while and develop a relationship with its owner.
Ask them if they would be interested in a partnership in which you promote their website and they promote yours – persuade them by outlining how you could each benefit from the partnership.
However, you don't want to partner with a competing website, but one that complements your site. For example, if your site sells cosmetics, you don't want to partner with another cosmetic site, but maybe a site that offers beauty tips to its readers.
That way your sites can complement each other and not fight for the same customers.
5. Get Listed in a Directory
There are lots of blog directories and a lot of them accept websites as well. Do a search and submit to as many as you can.
You could also find online directories that provide lists of similar websites. For example if you own a poetry website, submit your URL to writer's directories. Be careful some of these charge fees – start with the free ones.
6. Submit Your Site to a Blog Carnival
Blogcarnival.com/bc has a directory of blogs and websites that host carnivals. Carnivals are lists of websites devoted to a specific topic.
For example a "Nail Care" carnival would be devoted to listing all site that discuss some aspect of nail care. The benefits of this listing are numerous.
In addition to bringing you more free targeted web traffic, it can create more links back to your site and it gives you more authority when people see that someone else is talking about your site. Try hosting a blog carnival of your own for even more exposure.

7. Use Free Advertising Services or Classifieds
Freeads.co.uk (and others like it) allow you to post free classified ads on their websites.
Make sure you write compelling ads. Ads with titles that offer a number of tips or strategies are more likely to get noticed. For example: "3 Tricks to a Greener Lawn" will get more clicks than "Lawn Care Services for Hire".
8. Submit a Press Release
Free-press-release.com offers free press release services that could get more exposure and bring more free targeted web traffic to your site. (See "How to Write a Free Press Release")
9. Repeat
Put these tips into action and repeat them as often as possible. Do something to build traffic every day. Make free targeted web traffic building one of your top priorities.
Keep at it and gradually your website traffic will increase. But the key word here is gradually. It is going to take time to generate free targeted web traffic, so be patient and no matter what, don't give up!
