Email Advertising: Boost Website Traffic and Sales
Email Advertising: Boost Website Traffic and Sales By Daniel D Dwase...
|
If you have not set up some mechanism to capture your visitor's email addresses, you are allowing potential customers to leave your site - forever!
Advertising with email is a great way to stay in contact with people who have visited your site; it allows you to regain their attention and possibly refresh their memory about a product they were considering, but for whatever reason, didn't complete the sale.
Email advertising gives you a second chance - possibly even a third, fourth... tenth chance to sell your site.
|
For every email address you fail to capture, you are losing potential follow-up sales... and countless amount of money.
Now, I'm not talking about setting up some type of trap to steal email addresses - I'm talking about setting up at the very least, a subscription box.
You'll want to encourage subscribers by offering them an incentive, like a free ebook with useful tips and valuable information in return for their email address.
Or you could ask them to submit their email before moving on to an article on your site. The key is to give them a good reason to leave their email address with you. Free information or a product usually does the trick.
Once you've collected amount of email addresses, use your list to advertise your site, products, or services.
Now wait, before you go off loading up a message with a ton of website or product links, think about what your potential customers might want to read.
Rather than making a blatant attempt to sell them something - offer them something; give them some more helpful hints and information, then gently lead them into a sale by revealing the benefits of a particular product or service that you are offering.
Write a vivid message that gives them details they might not be aware of or outline how your product could save them time or even money in the long run.
You may have to do this over a series of messages. Don't try to rush and jam-pack everything into one extremely long (and possibly boring) message. Instead, write a few short messages, each one building on the previous.
Approach email advertising the same way you would if you were writing content for your site. It's got to be persuasive without being pushy.
Email Advertising - Easy Setup:
For basic setup all you need is an email subscriber box. If you know how to create forms using HTML you can create one yourself. If not, you can go to www.feedburner.com and copy their code into the HTML of your site for free.
You can use this subscription box on Blogger, too. Be sure to customize it by replacing the words "Enter Your Email" in their code with something that is more applicable to your site.
If you want to persuade your visitors for example with a free camping guide you could type in: "A Free Gift Just for you! Download this Free Camping Guide for a limited time only. I'll send it to you right away if you'll just enter your email address below."
See how much more persuasive the second example would be to a visitor? No one can resist a free gift! But don't forget to send the guide to them right away.
Tip:
Be sure to include a note in your subscription box that promises not to sell or give their email address to anyone else. You could post something like: "I hate spam, too! I value your privacy and promise not to share your information with a third party".
Email Advertising - Advanced Setup:
If you want to use more advanced features of the subscription box or email form - say you want to send them to another page on your site that contains the article they’re looking for. You'll need to enter the hidden HTML code that will allow you to do this:
Replace www.yoursite.com with the article's URL. After the visitor clicks the "submit" button after entering their email address, it should take them directly to the page you've designated.
You could even set up an autoresponder and have a message or ebook file automatically sent to them. In order to do this, though, you'll need to have autoresponder capabilities on your website.
Tip:
Be sure to test out your autoresponder thoroughly - enter your own email address to see if you are able to automatically receive the message(s) you've created.
Whether you choose to use a basic subscription box from www.feedburner.com or an HTML email form on your site, make email advertising a continuous part of your traffic building process.
Don't overwhelm your potential customers with blatant sales pitches. Instead send them gentle advertisements that look like regular email messages.
Send one or two per month. Then check your stats to see if this process is increasing your traffic.
You may need to tweak it a few times before you get the follow-up sales you're hoping for, but keep at it and you'll see results soon enough.
